Last night I went to the Bristol Old Vic to see a rather good production of The Bacchae by Kneehigh Theatre (http://www.kneehigh.co.uk/thebacchae.html). It was superb, and although it didn't stick to the text, I feel it captured the ideas of the play perfectly, with Dionysus looking almost like a whirling dervish. Superb acting and music. Go see it if you can.

60 years ago today, the Red Army liberated Auschwitz. The way that Europe's leaders came together enheartened me, and the talk of European unity filled me with hope. I can't say anything else about the Shoah, as words are not enough to express the sheer enormity of the killing.

I overheard my first bit of anti-semitism for a long while today. Now I have some aquaintances who know about my roots, but most in the school aren't aware of it, as I'm not religious or even keep Shabbas, and among those who do know, the taunting is limited to a few rounds of the Borat song "Throw the jew down the well". However, what I overheard someone say shocked me. Here it is: "I hate the Jews, and the Catholics, they're my two least favourate races, them and the blacks". I was simply not expecting it. My school seems rather progressive, and to hear this ruined my morning. I didn't say anything to the person (who is a bit of a twat in my opinion) but I didn't mention it to any teachers either. Should I? I may do tomorrow, what with it being Shoah memorial day. The Queen is going to be at a televised thing, so I'll watch that. Phrase for the day: All wars are civil wars, for all men are brothers

And that someone is me!!!!!!!! Yes, I am now a wage slave. About £80 a week!!!!! I am so excited about having a source of income, and not having to scrounge off parents/dead ancestor's riches. Hurrah!!!!!! I haven't been this excited for a long while. To celebrate, I've ordered an MP3 player (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000684HRS/qid%3D1106673027/202-7862958-3123804) That should come in two days. I think I'll get drunk on port tonight.

Yay!!! It worked!!! Hurrah!!! I've only got the camera on my phone, so the quality isn't great. I'll put up any photos that I've taken over the course of my social life.

I went out for a rather nice meal last night. It was Robyn's birthday, and a few of us went to a little bistro called 'Bobs'. Conversation was good, and I had a lovely joint of lamb with honey and mint glaze. Wine was nice, but I had a bit too much. She has a proper party tonight, at her home, so I'm going to take a few DVD's along. In other news, I'm going to get a job!!! There is a new Marks and Spencer's (good - Jewish owned) opening in town, and a saterday job would bring in a bit of cash (I don't keep Shabbat, so working is just fine). Also, I should go to a hustings to choose the Lib Dem candidate for my area, but I'm not sure if I should.

I typed this up a few days ago, and so some of the things are incorrect, but I'll post it anyway. Hello there. You, yes you. Person reading this blog that you’ve probably found using that fantastic ‘next blog’ thing. I love using it, as it gives this taste of the sheer variety of the world out there. The number of times that I’ve just clicked on it, and come upon a gem. It’s through that beauty that I discovered blogs that I read daily, and whose author’s I have come to know and respect. Well, what have I been doing recently? A little egocentric perhaps, but there we are. I have had a good bit of new music since my last post. Just looking through the library I can see the following new faces. I received The Killer’s album ‘Hot Fuss’ for Xmas off my little brother (good taste for an 8-year-old, but I chose it) I’d wanted it for a while, and its fantastic. In the new years sales I purchased ‘The last broadcast’ by Doves and ‘Antics’ by Interpol. I really love ‘The last broadcast’, but I am not fussed by Interpol – I imagine they will grow on me. I borrowed Tim’s ‘Abba Gold’ and now it’s on my laptop. Most recently I purchased ‘Electric Samurai’ by Tomoyasu Hotei – It’s rather good, and rather trendy. Film-wise, I purchased a couple DVD’s. Notably ‘Divine intervention’ a Palestinian surreal comedy and ‘Goodbye Lenin’ a touching German comedy. I ordered ‘American Beauty’ and ‘Suzie Gold’ off Amazon. All rather good. Book-wise, it’s been super, with a good book by the Chief Rabbi ‘The dignity of difference’ that’s about tolerance – it’s good in the sociology department as well. I’m reading ‘Religion without God’ by Ray Billington, and may get it signed by him at the next philosophy circle meeting. ‘Brave New World’ was good, and ‘The Japanese Mind’ has been enlightening on aspects of Japanese culture, notably Wabi-Sabi, and should be useful if/when I go to Japan. I’ve had a couple of exams recently, with my Epic paper on Tuesday, and the business Finance paper on Wednesday. I wasn’t supplied with a sheet that I needed, and so wasn’t able to do some questions. Bit of a muck up all-in-all. The New ipod shuffle was released today, and I may get one as it’s only £69.

I have two exams on monday, the New testament paper (hopeing for miracle questions) and Philosophy of Religion (not good at this, need to revise the theodicies). I'll post after the exams and let you know how I got on. I may post some of the answers that I gave, and I will definatly post the personel statement that I had to send off to the Uni's. See ya!!!

Had a driving lesson today, and my teacher thinks that I could book a test for late Feb. At least it would give me something to work towards.

I came home after my classics exam (not to bad, raised some quite good ideas about Dionysus being the embodiment of excess, and the conflict between the cults of Bacchus and Apollo) and discovered two items in the post for me! I don't normaly get anything in the post, so I was rather excited. One was a letter from UCAS, telling me that Oxford Brookes (or St Brookes college, Oxford as my grandmother belives) was offering me a place for three C's. Easy peasy. The other was from Lamp. asking if I wanted to enter an essay comp. to win free accomidation at the Uni. I may enter it, just for fun.

Goodness, I haven't posted for almost a month! I did type up a long post a few nights ago, and will probably put it up in a couple of days. My Uni application's have been recived by Durham and Lamp. and I have to go for an interview on 2nd Feb. I have an exam today, and am just typeing this a bit before hand! It's a Class Civ paper, and I'm the only person in my school to take it. Well, I'll post again in a bit.
